BAUDIUS, Dominicus. - Poematum nova editio.

Leiden, Thomas Basson, 1607. 8vo. (15, 5x8, 4 cm.). [xxviii], 612 (recte 624) pp. Contemporary fine overlapping vellum, with single filet on both sides; title in ink on spine. (bottom of front hinge starting to split, but firmly holding; ties gone; small ex-libris of A.Reisig, Weimar, and his owners entry; a few pages age-toned; ca.hundred pages lightly waterstained in bottom corner; a nice copy on strong paper) - Laudatory poems by J.J.Scaliger, Bon.Vulcanius, Daniel Heinsius, H.Grotius. ¶ "In 1607 Thomas Basson had published his (Baudius) Poemata, which the author had dedicated to the Sates General. Baudius even offered a copy personally to king James, but the English king would not reward him for a book dedicated to the High and Mighty Lords. The king's proud attitude was amply compensated by the generous sum of 300 guilders the States General gave him." (Bögels, Govert Basson, p.89). The Poemata were reprinted posthumously in 1616.
